I’ve got big plans to transform our boring living room into a Modern Traditional Living Room full of style and character.
Welcome, welcome. For those of you that are new here, hi! I’m Stephanie. I blog about all things DIY and Home Remodeling. My blog focuses mainly on projects I work on for my own home. From wallpaper to furniture design, DIY wall art to restoring your installing tongue and groove on a ceiling. I share it all here. So, my ORC Living Room Makeover Plans are a mix of DIY furniture, remodeling, and of course, lots of fun shopping finds.
My design plans include building furniture, upholstering old chairs, remodeling our fireplace wall, and changing the layout of the room. For the last six years, I’ve left our living room as a boring but functional place for babies to play. So, it’s time to start shaking things up, adding style, and going for that colorful, but light and bright feel I’ve been adding around the rest of the house.
But first, let’s see those embarrassingly boring before photos, right?! 😉
Quick Note: I’m sharing this living room makeover as part of the Fall 2018 One Room Challenge. Follow the link to see a page full of inspiring indoor and outdoor rooms being made over by over 200 talented designers and DIY bloggers. But first, grab a cup of coffee, you’ll want to see them all. So much inspiration, guys!

Happy painting, Stephanie! Love the new ceiling color and the color on the fireplace!! Be safe up on all that scaffolding. <3 Looking forward to your next post.
Hugs,
Barb 🙂
Thanks so much, Barbara. Painting finally done. So glad to not climb up there again. 🙂
I am so excited to watch this room evolve. I love your choices and ideas! Thanks for linking up to Best of the Weekend. You were one of my features this week!
Shelley
Thanks so much, Shelley!
I cannot wait to see this makeover Stephanie. I’ve been following you for such a long time and I just know it’s going to be awesome
Aw, thanks Michelle. You’re always so supportive. I hope you like what I come up with. 🙂
Love all the windows. Can’t wait to see the finished product.
I’m so excited. It’s going to feel like a new house. 🙂
Fellow blue lover here! Can’t wait to see how this room turns out! The plans look so lovely!
I’m going to have to rent scaffolding for the first time in my life and I’m terrified. I hate heights. Maybe I’ll hire this one out. hahaha
Thanks, Teri! I hope you like the reveal. 🙂 Scaffolding really is pretty scary, if you think about it too much. My husband can’t get to the top level. He just shakes the whole time. I just listen to podcasts and try not to think about it too much. Actually, I finished the living room, foyer, and our front porch. So my husband is returning the scaffolding now. Yea!!!
Love your plan and fabric selection! What is the color of your new neutral paint? Thanks!
Hi Laurie! It is great fabric. I can’t stop touching it all. The paint is Behr’s Sandstone Cove in Eggshell. 🙂
Can’t wait to see what you do! <3
Thanks, Jenn! I’m very excited about this room.
It’s so much fun when you can reclaim the living room and not design around kids’ stuff! Can’t wait to follow along and see how this room progresses!
I’m so looking forward to having a pretty space again. Thanks, Nicole!
