Can $10 LED Light Bulbs that flicker like gas flame actually add the charm & character of a real gaslight? Let’s test them on my front porch!
Using Light Bulbs That Flicker Like Gas Flame
Every couple of months, I like to share one of my favorite home improvement or DIY products with you all. Like my super popular Grout Makeover.
Today’s find has made my front porch all kinds of awesome!
I’ve wanted to try these LED Gaslight Light Bulbs outside my house since I saw a video for them last Christmas. So, I decided it was time to give them a go when we recently updated our front porch lights.
After doing a quick search for the LED Flame Effect Bulbs on Amazon, I found a bunch of highly rated options to try.
So, I just went for the best deal on one of the highest rated flickering light bulbs that day.
The exact one I picked is currently not listed, but hey, there are quite a lot with very high reviews from hundreds of people. And at around $20 for 2, it’s worth trying!
Do Light Bulbs That Flicker like Gas Light Look Real?
I tested these Gas Flame LED Light Bulbs in my front porch lights. I absolutely LOVE the realistic flame effect in these light bulbs. Check out this short video to see how they look.
Adding Curb Appeal With Gas Flame Bulbs
These LED Flickering Flame Light Bulbs are so easy to use. They work like any other light bulb. All you have to do is screw them into an existing light.
And, Gas Flame light bulbs produce a 100% authentic looking flame look. The color of the flame light is very realistic looking.
In fact, the one unexpected aspect to this flame effect light bulb was the way it looked from inside the house. It legitimately looks like a fire is on the front porch from inside the house.
I had a few nights of double-takes when I walked by that door. I honestly thought there was a fire on my front porch. But the added curb appeal from these LED light bulbs that flicker is so pretty, I got used to it!
Updating Our Porch Lights
Before I could really enjoy these gaslight light bulbs, we really needed to replace our 20-year old porch lights.
The old lights were really faded and aged from the harsh Texas sun. AND the small size of those old lights was all wrong for our large porch.
We needed to go with a bigger light to match the scale of the wall and door. I wanted something with a classic, traditional look too, to match our house.
A wrought iron look would be prefect! Amazon had tons of rubbed bronze/black porch lights that were beautiful.
I ended up going with a beautiful Allen + Roth Rubbed Bronze, Seeded Glass Light. The seeded glass was lovely and I thought it would work great with an LED Gaslight Light Bulb.
I went for seeded glass on our back porch fans too. Check them out in my DIY Painted Tongue & Groove Porch Ceiling Makeover.
My husband installed these beautiful new porch lights while I worked on a quick restain of our front door without removing it.
So, within the day, we had a beautifully stained door and new large porch lights. Literally, these were 2 huge wins in 1 day that instantly amped up our curb appeal. Yea!
Happy Dancing all over that front porch now!
Installing Flame Effect Bulbs in Porch Lights
I wrapped up that day by popping in those flickering light bulbs and crossed my fingers hoping they wouldn’t be a huge fail. I have to say, they are pretty cool, guys.
The flame does look pretty darn realistic. If you don’t want a bright flame, you might want to try one of those 4 mode LED Flame Effect Fire Bulbs.
You can even use those in an upright bulb, like on a lamp.
I highly recommend using these easy flame effect light bulbs outdoors to get a real, natural looking gaslight effect. They’re a curb appeal win for me!
